A Sample of what we do...

On this page you can meet a few of our poets, find out a little about us and read a few samples of our work! We started Bignose in 2002. It was inspired by the story of Cyrano de Bergerac  hence the Big Nose. Cyrano de Bergerac wrote poems for other people to give out as their own. We thought it was appropriate.

When we started, no one else was doing this at all! We were the first, and because we only allow the finest poets to become Bignose Poets, we are the best! We pride ourselves on the highest levels of writing, and the highest levels of customer service. If you think you could write for us, then please get in contact.

We are a small team of five Poets. On this page, we will be giving you a flavour of us all. To start off with, allow me to introduce to you Greg and Paul and Mike...

Greg's Poem

About Greg...

Born & raised in Kent
Now lives in Scotland with wife, daughter (& dog !)
Has written approx 50 poems for Bignose so far
Has been writing poems since I was at school
Football fan, also like films & spending time with my family
Chartered Accountant (although this might go against me !!!)

To give you an idea of what we do, we gave Greg a completely fictitious description to write about, and this is what he came up with! Obviously this is a humorous poem, but we can provide the words for every situation.

Poem type Special Occasion

General description A retirement poem for Paul! Paul has been at the company for 50 years. We are a company making bath plugs out of paper Mache (?). Paul designed the revolutionary 'sealed' paper Mache plug (sealed in plastic) for that he won the Pluggers award in 1976. He went to Buckingham Palace to receive it from the Queen.

He is retiring to Bristol, to be with his aged aunt. He was married, but she left him in Victoria Station. His Nickname at work is Pop. His favourite song is Fire starter by the Prodigy. He loves cricket and ice skating. He has a dog called Roger, and reads the Star every day. Favourite food Thai.

Please write us a lovely humorous poem for a respected colleague!

So here's to Paul, our faithful friend,
Retiring on this day.
For fifty years, both man and boy,
He strived to “plug” away.

And ever since old “Pop” received,
His honour from the Queen.
That now hangs from his mantelpiece,
Which every day he cleans.

He's worked his fingers to the bone,
Never without a smile.
But now his time has come to pass,
For him to rest a while.

In Bristol, with his dear old aunt,
We wish him all the best.
With “Fire Starter” blaring loud,
She won't get too much rest.

But as we know, old “Pop” won't miss,
His wife, who was a pain.
He thought she'd never leave his side,
She left him for a train !

But on his own he'll never be,
With Roger by his side.
To fetch his copy of The Star,
His tail wagging with pride.

So now with time upon your hands,
We hope you have some fun.
Like taking trips to Oz, to watch
The cricket in the sun.

And maybe even learn to skate,
You've told us all for years.
How gliding swift across the ice,
Would help roll back the years.

Or fly to Thailand on a plane,
And taste the spice of life.
To bring back recipes to cook
Or maybe just a wife !

A fond farewell we wished to give,
With this, our last goodbye.
A special gift from us, to you,
Our thoughts expressed in rhyme.

To let you know you shall be missed,
By colleagues day-by-day.
I'm sure I speak for everyone,
Who all just wished to say.

To wish you well, to raise a glass,
To “Pop” we give three cheers,
And hope you make the very best,
Of all your future years.

Paul's Poem...

About Paul...

My name is Paul and I'm a rhymeoholic. Every day for the past fifteen years I've been rhyming. It started off with limericks for my friends and then poems for birthdays and weddings. Sometimes they are so cheesy I get nightmares, but I can't stop. I need to keep writing, so please ask me to create your poem and you'll be assisting a desperate man, you'll also get a cracking poem, guaranteed to deliver whatever message you want to convey.

And this is a sample of Paul's work...

My job as a big brother, was to tease and take the mick,
Torture all your teddies; make you scream until you're sick,

Chinese burns and donkey bites were gifts from me to you,
Dead legs, pinches, pulling hair, all things I used to do,

I'm not here to apologise, we can see it did no harm,
You've grown up such a lovely lurch, full of wit and charm,

I'm sorry Cat to call you names, old habits they die hard,
I'll keep it complimentary; I'd hate to spoil your card,

You're sweet and kind and good looking and such a brilliant laugh,
I'm sorry I must stop right there, I think I'm going to barf,

What makes a perfect sister, I made a big long list,
I checked it against Catherine, there's nothing much she missed,

She does have many talents, in fact she's talented,
I won't go on about them it'll only swell her head,

One thing she's been blessed with, is an extremely loud voice,
Through some genetic defect, she has no volume choice,

It's stuck on loud and booming at the top end of the scale,
You can hear it in the next room, in the next street, in a gale,

We get on so much better now that we have both grown up,
She's turned into a lady, from a cheeky little pup.

It's fair to say we'll miss her when she packs and goes away,
Coz a little chat with Catty can brighten up your day,

But I think I'd better stop now, as I've gone on long enough,
I can see the look on Sean's face and He's getting in a huff,

Happy Birthday.

Mike's Poem...

Hi, my name is Mike. I am an opera singer by day, and a poet by night! I started this site a few years ago. It started small and has grown... But I love it! I'm constantly amazed at how brilliant my fellow poets here at Bignose are, and I am so proud of them all! I am 30 something, a father to a little girl and best friend to a small grey dog! I...I just love words. I live in Germany, and don't drink the beer!

The following poem is an actual poem that I wrote for one of our best customers, Jacqui. She has ordered several poems from us, she tells me her Mum has one of mine framed on her wall! She very kindly allowed us to publish this on the web page. Many thanks, Jacqui!

This poem's for you, Mikey,
Allow us a few minutes of your time
To speak a little of your charms
And to wrap them all up in rhyme!

Twenty three years young
Studying hard and full
Not just for the coming exams
But at Tequila, Grey Goose and Red Bull!

Weekends are a good time for study
And the following days as well
But the 'little green one eyed two horned ten legged aliens'
Always give you the hangover from hell!

You are such a family man
I know you've spent many afternoons
At dance classes with Nikki, Sarah and Monica
Your toe tapping secretly to the tunes!

And you are always there for a cuddle
If your sisters are hurt by anyone!
But for you, your number one lady
Is your Mom, and you're her golden son!

You are an American but prouder
Still to be called an Italian!
With your charm and your looks you really
Are quite the Proverbial Stallion!

You are simply so scrumptious as
An Italian desert, it's true!
I know all the girls just melt
When they come into contact with you...

Whether playing football or going
To the gym several times a week,
You are so handsome of face
And you have such a perfect physique...

When you are working in the call centre
Answering calls in your own special way,
I am sure you charm all of the callers
As you ALWAYS know just the right thing to say...(your secret!!!)

Your soul is full of such rhythm
Music you so much enjoy.
Maybe those dance classes weren't wasted
That your Mom took you to as a boy!

Can I reveal to the world a secret?
One that you've tried to keep hushed?
But lots of people read Harry Potter,
So really-there's no reason to blush!

Your cooking just melts in the mouth-
A talent sent down from the skies!
And that's not the only thing that melts
When faced with your beautiful big brown eyes...

With laughter and friendly advice
You are just the most amazing friend!
Funny, fit and oh so handsome-
Talented and wonderful without end!

So please take these words we've written
As a token of our friendship and joy-
Of having your sunlight shine upon us.
And of knowing you, our dear Mikey Boy!

We will be adding samples of our other poets soon. Keep checking for more details.
